Another great Beatrix Williams book。 She weaves a wonderful story about a female aviatrix in the 1930-40s who find passion in flying and in love， but also loss。

I picked up this book at the library on a whim。 It looked promising - women pilot， mysterious circumstances， historical fiction， and Kauai。 I had some initial problems with it - it was slow to start， the inhabitants and setting didn't have an authentic feel to me， and then I started having issues with some of the characterizations of the women。 But， the story telling was lyrical and beautiful， so I kept going - and I'm glad that I did。 It ended much more strongly than it had begun and it turned I picked up this book at the library on a whim。 It looked promising - women pilot， mysterious circumstances， historical fiction， and Kauai。 I had some initial problems with it - it was slow to start， the inhabitants and setting didn't have an authentic feel to me， and then I started having issues with some of the characterizations of the women。 But， the story telling was lyrical and beautiful， so I kept going - and I'm glad that I did。 It ended much more strongly than it had begun and it turned into a lovely tale about identity， connection， and truth。 。。。more

I wish that the author’s note was at the front of the book because I thought this was a veiled effort to explain Amelia Earhart’s life。 As the author’s note explains， she was reimagining circumstances and went down the “what if” rabbit hole。。。and out hopped this story。 Once I knew this I was able to enjoy it way more。 There were a few things I didn’t like but all in all a good story with unexpected （at least to me） twists。

Sometimes a book will just slowly take you in and curl around you like a comfy pillow。 I had no idea how sucked into this book I would be。 Ms。 Williams writes so precisely and smoothly。 I love her work and I love this story。 It takes you on a journey that has so many twists。 Truly wonderfully written with great characters， touching stories， and a witty yet snarky storyteller。 I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with this one。
